Do you have what it takes?
Required Skills / Qualifications
- Current CPR, AED, and Basic First-Aid certification*
- Current or recent professional experience in the first-aid or EMS field such as: Fire/EMS, nursing, medical assistant, therapist, or any other health-care related occupation. Students currently enrolled in school studying a medical field may also eligible, depending on skill and knowledge.
- Recent first-aid experience such as Scouting or military, or a relevant certification such as: WFA/WFR, OSHA Workplace First-Aid, EMR, or CERT Medical training, may also accepted, depending on demonstrated skill and knowledge.
- Volunteer candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following skills:
- Basic vitals (BP, Pulse, Respirations, O2 sat, temp)
- Basic bleeding control (direct pressure, TQ)
- Trauma assessment head-to-toe (DCAP-BTLS)
- Basic medical assessment and history (SAMPLE)
- Basic mental assessment (LOC, stroke scale)
- Familiarity with patient-privacy laws (HIPAA)
* BEWARE of ONLINE-ONLY CPR CERT SCAMS! Only certifications from a nationally accredited agency such as AHA, Red Cross, ASHI or OSHA will be accepted. Only courses which include an in-person evaluation by a certified instructor will be considered. Online-only certifications are not accepted.
* Provisional certifications from the Red Cross or AHA will be accepted for those who previously held certifications but were unable to attend an in-person class due to COVID restrictions.
